Member Spotlight: Cole Hovey
🏅 Special Olympics Champion | Golf Enthusiast | OSI Member
For Cole, sports have always been a big part of life. Since 2005, he’s been competing in the Special Olympics, excelling in track & field and, most of all, golf. But until recently, he had never tried consistent strength training—that all changed when his mom introduced him to Coach Laura at OSI.
💪 Stronger Swings, Bigger Drives
Since starting personal training once a week in May 2024, Cole has seen a huge improvement in his golf game. His drive has gained 50 yards, and he has more energy to stay strong on the course.
🏆 Gold Medal Winner
In Fall 2024, Cole’s dedication paid off—he won a gold medal in the 9-hole competition at the North Carolina Special Olympics Fall Games!
🔥 Training at OSI
Cole works hard in every session, and his favorite parts of training are:
✅ Rope exercises – Building endurance and power
✅ Rocking resets – Keeping his body moving and feeling great
✅ Coach Laura’s guidance – “She is super nice and makes me work hard!”

A Note from Coach Laura
“Working with Cole is a lot of fun! I’m sure to choose movements that help him reach his goals but are also engaging and fun. He can name almost any song that comes on the speakers and is always sharpening up a dad joke for anyone that’s near.
🎤 Beyond the Gym
When he’s not training or golfing, Cole loves karaoke, telling jokes, and doing a spot-on Elvis impersonation! 🎶 His favorite song? “Life is a Highway” – Rascal Flatts.
