Meet Dr Ashley Hoffman.
She’s been a member here at Original Strength Institute since the Fall of 2022 working with one of of the personal trainers, Coach Will, a few times a week.
Back in 2021 Ashley was diagnosed with heart failure which inspired a move back to NC. “I was very weak both from the illness and a 8-day hospital stay. It took a long time to recover and get up the energy and stamina to even be able to work out.” Ashley did a cardiac rehab class and finally felt like maybe she was ready to push her body a little more without risking (literal) death.
Ashley mustered up the will to call Original Strength Institute and told Kat all about her limitations. Kat came back at her with a “Great, we got you!” and matched Ashley up with Coach Will Mangum for some private personal training.
It’s been well over a year since Ashley has been working with Will and her all of her heart numbers are looking fantastic.
“My doctors told me that really after 3 months of the heart failure meds, my numbers would be the best they’d get, but now 2.5 years later, they just keep getting better”, Ashley told us.
“I’m creeping closer to normal range each time, and am down to seeing most of my doctors 2 times a year maximum. I don’t have any other explanation for this progress than the work I am doing with Will at OSI!”
Finding Balance in a Busy Life
Ashley’s daily life is filled with back-to-back meetings from 9-5. She realized the importance of scheduling movement in her day, blocking off time for gym sessions and walks with her beloved pups. Whether it’s a full workout or a simple walk in the yard, Ashley makes it a priority to keep her blood flowing and stay active.
Overcoming Obstacles with OSI
One of Ashley’s biggest challenges in the past was lack of accountability and finding time for fitness. However, OSI Gym became a game-changer for her. With Will by her side, guiding, scheduling, and holding her accountable, Ashley found the support she needed to redefine her fitness journey. At OSI, she’s not just another face in the crowd; she’s part of a community that notices and cares when she’s absent.
Proud Achievements and Future Goals
Since joining OSI, Ashley’s health has seen remarkable improvements. She proudly shares that she’s healthier, stronger, and her heart health continues to improve—a testament to her dedication and the supportive environment at OSI.
Looking ahead, Ashley has her sights set on lifting heavier weights and pushing her numbers even higher. With her determination and OSI’s support, there’s no doubt she’ll achieve her goals.
Motivation and Favorite Moments
On days when motivation wanes, Ashley draws strength from the life-changing impact of her fitness journey. It’s not just about looking and feeling good; for Ashley, it’s a matter of life and death. Knowing that Will is right there with her, putting in the work, provides an extra boost of encouragement.
When asked about her favorite movements at OSI, Ashley lights up talking about rolling exercises. They feel natural and help loosen her back and hips—areas that have historically been problematic for her. And of course, she can’t help but mention her fondness for the Vertimax Raptor (which is a resistance training system attached to the wall at OSI).
Words of Wisdom and Reflection
For newcomers or those considering OSI, Ashley offers some valuable advice. OSI is a “no judgment” gym where you can start at your level and grow stronger with time. If she could go back to her first visit, Ashley would tell herself, “You won’t die! 🙂 You’ll have fun, and everyone is nice.”
During her interview Ashley made sure to express her gratitude for everyone at OSI, especially her coach, Will. Laughing, sweating, and working out safely with the OSI community has become a highlight of her journey.

I love reading cookbooks and trying new cooking techniques (my latest is grinding my own wheat). I was a pageant winner as a teen. I owned my first pig when I was 9, and have owned around 20 in my life
