The Content Creator Who Lifts Heavy and Lives Well

Member Spotlight: Kelly Cain

When Kelly Cain first stepped through the doors of Original Strength Institute, she wasn’t new to fitness. As a seasoned marketing strategist and long-time fitness class regular, she’d already spent nearly a decade training with personal trainers and in group fitness settings. But something felt different this time.

“I really love the community at OSI,” Kelly shared. “It’s positive, welcoming, encouraging. The training style is balanced—it’s challenging and scalable. And the way I feel when I leave? I don’t ever leave feeling completely burnt out like other training modalities used to leave me.”

Kelly was introduced to OSI by a college friend, Stella, but like many of us, she waited years before finally making the leap. Now, she says her only regret is not starting sooner.

As a business owner with a flexible schedule, Kelly still prioritizes her training time each week. “Without it, my mental health suffers. I don’t feel the same in my body as I move throughout each day. It keeps me feeling good.”

But Kelly’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. She’s walked through a season of disordered eating and harmful body beliefs—a path many can relate to. What drew her to OSI wasn’t just the workouts; it was the culture.

“I love that the focus at OSI isn’t on appearance or aesthetics. It’s clear the team here values what matters: good form, gradual strength improvements, mobility, and community. They’re focused on what’s lasting—not what’s fleeting.”

That shift in mindset has paid off, both mentally and physically. One of Kelly’s proudest moments so far? Hitting a 195-pound deadlift—a milestone she never imagined herself reaching.

Her favorite movements? The sled push and single-leg deadlift.

Her favorite reset? Kickstand rocking.

And while she may (jokingly) regret saying this, she’s even set a new goal: to get better at crawling.

“I know I feel so much better in life mentally and physically after spending time at the gym. It’s the ROI for me,” she says.

Outside the gym, Kelly’s full of energy and creativity. She’s a sourdough-baking, watercolor-loving local influencer (find her @theraleighlocal), originally from Cary, NC. She’s got 2 wonderful and active kiddos (a ninja and a football player) and she’s also dog mom to two golden retrievers named Dolly and June. Kelly can be found exploring Raleigh’s coffee shops, parks, and taco joints.

To anyone who feels nervous about getting started, Kelly has this to say:
“Be excited for what’s to come. I’ve loved being a part of the OSI community, and my only regret is not starting sooner.”
