Meet Diane – STRONGEST Grandma We Know

Check out this special member spotlight!

Diane Rasey has been at OS Institute since January of 2012.

She is one of the strongest, ripped, and hard working 54 year old’s we know. She is one of our longest participating members who has been with us since basically the start!!

She was chosen to be our spotlight member because of her commitment to OSI, herself, and her small group session mates.  The progress she has made, and the way she always gives her best and completes class with a smile on her face is beyond amazing.  Actually, you can also say she is a spotlight because nearly every person in class, says they want to be ‘just like Diane’… sooo, basically, Diane is our Michael Jordan— Cue ‘I wanna be like Mike’ song! Anyways, congratulations Diane, enjoy your spotlight!!  🙂

What’s an interesting fact about you?

I have a 12 year old grandson, 6 year old granddaughter and awaiting the April arrival of our 3rd grandchild- another boy…and I’ve never had a Facebook account. ????

How did you hear about/what made you decide to try OSi?

Over 4 years ago I was getting ready to hit a milestone birthday (50), had a sedentary desk job and was feeling out of shape and needing a change to counteract the weight gain from that. There just happened to be a Groupon special at that time and it was SO far outside of my comfort zone, but I had vowed to break out of that box more often, so I committed to the Groupon special and haven’t looked back. Divine intervention for sure.

What did you initially think about our form of movement and what reset felt the strangest?

I remember seeing Tim having someone performing the rocking reset and I wondered WHAT in the WORLD had I signed up for? Between the rocking reset, crawling and dead bugs (WHAT? Dead bugs????)…I wasn’t sure what kind of workout I had broken out of my comfort zone for!

Have you noticed anything in everyday life that is easier to do or you are able to do better?

I am SO much stronger than I was when I first began with Tim, Dani, and Chris. I can carry things up and down the stairs or play a game of basketball with the grands without getting winded. And thanks to OSi farm work, I can do ACTUAL farm work when I go to my parents in TN. ????  Plus, now I have visible muscle definition and actually look like I work out!

What is your favorite thing to do at OSi and Why?

I really enjoy hitting the tire (good bye stress!), kettlebells, and the ropes. The ropes were my nemesis when I first began. Now when I do them, I realize how far I’ve come from the first time I battled with them. The kettlebells make me feel invincible. Doing Turkish Get Ups or some swings during a workout make me realize that I AM strong!

What has been one of your biggest obstacles when it comes to sticking to your health game plan in the past?

Finding a place to work out that was close to home, wasn’t too large, and where the coaching staff were truly vested in my success, not just the “contract” they could get me to sign.  I have found EXACTLY that and more at OS Institute.

How has OSi helped/is helping you presently to overcome that obstacle?

OSi is my workout “home”. Not only have they have provided a “real-life” workout for me to continue to grow in my fitness journey that is achievable as I continue to age, but their life/work philosophy attract solid, like-minded individuals who have become like family to me. There is so much encouragement here and we hold each other accountable.  I love my gym community.

What is your proudest achievement/next big goal at OSi?

Two of the proudest achievements was the first time I was able to do an unassisted pull up and training for a half marathon. I am not sure what my next big goal at OSi will be, other than to continue to show up each workout and give it my all.  (Guys, this lady is a machine, whatever she sets her mind to, she achieves!)

What is something you would say to your first week of OSi self to encourage/help them?

I would say to remember that this is a process. Start where you are, give yourself kudos for each day you stick to it! Oh, and eventually you will find that your body hurts more after skipping workouts than actually doing one. 😉

If you are interested in joining us at OSI we have a couple options including; one on one training, group training, and a $29 2 week trial. For more information about OSI or to register for classes, check out http://originalstrengthinstitute.com.
