Not here for the movement, she’s here for the people

Meet our friend Lydia! Lydia is the kind of person you want to have in your sessions, whether you’re a participant, or the one coaching class. Her smile is infectious and she is willing to put in the work and cheer on the rest of the class.  She often wears a shirt that says ‘Your vibe attracts your tribe’ and we have to agree, that everyone around Lydia is caring and hard working.

We are so fortunate to have Lydia here and grateful she has found a new home and a family within this community.

What do you do for work?

Pediatric Nurse

What ELSE do you like to do? :)

Sailing, hiking NC parks, cycling. Anything outside.

How did you hear about OSI?

Friends

What has your fitness journey been like in the past?

I’ve been teaching fitness classes since 1987, certified in aerobics, water aerobics, cycling and personal trainer, so I stayed pretty active.

What positive impact has OSi had on your life?

Realizing I just needed to breathe, move, be honest, trustworthy and more open minded.

What is your daily schedule like and how do you find time to fit in movement throughout your day?

I’m blessed to work 3 days a week. I workout at least 5-6 days a week. Which I have always done even working 40 hrs per week. I’m a RN so safe movement is a must. If I’m tired and need fresh air I love to walk with my friends. It’s a great way to release stress with talking and strategizing.

What has been one of your biggest obstacles when it comes to sticking to your game plan in the past?

I lost my best friend and husband of 31 years to pancreatic cancer on May 21, 2017. It was the toughest time of my life ever. I joined OS in July 2017. I needed a change that I could control. It was also a tough choice because I quit teaching fitness classes and left a gym I had spent most of my career in.

How has OSI helped you redefine that obstacle?

Before I taught and took fitness classes, but at OS I participate. I control that.

What achievements are you most proud of since joining OSi?

I can hit the tire switching arms. It’s my fav!

What is a new goal that you would like to achieve?

Hanging around. Lol. And better posture with crawling. ( not my fav) but the one thing I can feel defining my posture.

What motivates you to continue showing up, even on days you would rather throw in the towel?

I will see someone in class who asks “how’s it going?” .  And the people in general.  We are all “for” each other no matter what is going on. It has been the biggest draw for me. Do what you can. And somedays it might not seem like much but someone notices. They just smile and it makes me smile!

What is your favorite movement and reset? Why?

Rolling is the best. Its something I never had done but has made the biggest impact. It wakes me up. I feel like I’m still in bed and stretching like my cat. Sounds crazy but look at them stretch – they arch their back and reach their front and back legs.

Do you have any advice for newbies or for those interested in trying OSI?

When you started and you don’t know the foundation (or how to press reset) it can seem a little bit….odd. I believe your first assessment with the trainer is crucial to the understanding of the power of pressing reset. Laura Meeks met with me to complete my Success Session assessment and was very informative about why she was assessing each movement and what she saw.

Tell us 3 fun facts about yourself?

I love cars old and new
I love going home to the farm and playing on the 4 wheelers
I love to be with my best friends sailing.

What is your favorite jam to workout to?

Tim’s superhero playlist. Lol

Do you prefer the mountains or the ocean?

Mountains

Favorite food?

Popcorn

What would you tell yourself if you could go back in time to the day of your first visit to OSI?

Just breathe. This too shall pass.
