Resetting Life: How Sussanna Morris Found Strength and Community at OSI

Member Spotlight: Sussanna Morris’s Transformative Journey at Original Strength Institute

At Original Strength Institute (OSI), we believe in the power of community, resilience, and personal growth. This month, we are thrilled to highlight a remarkable member who embodies these values: Sussanna Morris. Her journey with us is a testament to the life-changing impact of perseverance, support, and the OSI/Original Strength approach.

Discovering OSI: A Leap of Faith

For years, Sussanna had walked past OSI, intrigued by the inspiring message on our wall: “You are awesomely and wonderfully made.” However, it wasn’t until her teenage son expressed interest in joining a gym that she decided to take a leap of faith and walk through our doors. Little did she know, this decision would mark the beginning of an incredible transformation.

Getting to Know Sussanna

What do you do for work? I proudly call myself a Domestic Engineer.

What ELSE do you like to do? đŸ™‚ I love hiking, walking, fellowshipping, encouraging others, and crafting.

How did you hear about OSI? I heard about OSI when I walked by dozens of times, finally deciding to check it out after seeing the encouraging message on the wall.

What has your fitness journey been like in the past? Hiking and walking were my main activities, but after a neck injury in 1996, I convinced myself that more movement would hurt. I spent over two decades limiting my activity and “bracing for impact.”

The Positive Impact of OSI

What positive impact has OSI had on your life? I’ve been physically, emotionally, and spiritually RESET! Each of the trainers brings their own set of knowledge and tools to complement the overall RESET program. It’s a lot of work, but the staff and other members make it a lot of fun. A year in, I have more energy, strength, and confidence, all of which impact every facet of life.

What is your daily schedule like and how do you find time to fit in movement throughout your day? I used to sit for hours, but now I don’t want to sit longer than needed. I do some resets at least twice a day to keep my neck and shoulder mobility optimal. I started with three days a week at the gym, and I’ve been increasing to four days a week for a while now. If I start hurting or stressing, I get up and move or press reset.

What has been one of your biggest obstacles when it comes to sticking to your game plan in the past? Pain. I would try to power through and end up paying for it, which made me not want to keep trying.

How has OSI helped you redefine that obstacle? Resets and modifications as needed have really helped me increase my mobility, stamina, and strength. Those improvements have helped keep my pain levels in check. In fact, resets are my go-to now when I am experiencing any neck and shoulder pain or discomfort.

Celebrating Achievements and Setting New Goals

What achievements are you most proud of since joining OSI? I couldn’t do a single pushup when I started. Now I’ve done as many as 36 in a pushup/squat mountain interval. So many movements were so challenging at the start, but they’re almost easy now!

What is a new goal that you would like to achieve? I’ve been contemplating training for a mini triathlon. It’s insane, knowing where I started a year ago, to see that as an obtainable goal.

What motivates you to continue showing up, even on days you would rather throw in the towel? The community at OSI is amazing. I feel missed when I return after a break, and I also miss the staff and members when I’m away. I love seeing the goals being accomplished here!

Favorites and Advice

What is your favorite movement and reset? Why? Upper body rolls and egg rolls are some of my favorite resets because they feel amazing on my neck and shoulders. They’re great for stretching and mobility. I also enjoy core work.

Do you have any advice for newbies or for those interested in trying OSI? Just do it! Invest in yourself! If anything hurts or feels off, ask the trainer for a modification, and keep going. It is SO worth it!
